Documents Illustrating Papal Authority AD 96-454 by E. Giles. Collection of patristic texts from the early Church documenting the role of the Bishop of Rome in the early Church. Giles, an Anglican scholar, collected all the patristic texts cited by both Catholic and non-Catholic writers relative to the papacy. He also gives the arguments used both pro and con. Some texts seem to favor the Catholic position regarding the Pope but other texts seem to favor the other side. A later analysis based on the same evidence can be seen here:

According to statements issued by officials of the Russian Orthodox Church the document cited in the description as a recent analysis of the historical evidence does not completely express the views of the Orthodox Church on the evidence. See:
